Interview with Josie Rodrigues from Bonita Cakes. Cakes for weddings and all occasions

Josie Rodrigues runs her own cake company called Bonitas Cakes and specialises in bespoke cakes for all occasions.

Hi Josie,  Thanks for giving us some of your time today………..

How long have you been making cakes for weddings and other events and why did you get into it?

I used to work as a pastry chef so I have been making cakes and deserts for years. I decided to set up Bonita Cakes in August 2010 after completing a City & Guilds in Sugar-craft.

What is your favourite type of cake?

I like making elegant and feminine cakes with sugar flowers, but I cater for all tastes and styles.

What advice would you give to brides or people looking for a cake for any event?

I would advise brides to arrange a consultation so that we can discuss ideas in depth. It is common that the cake design is based around the wedding theme and colour scheme. For other events it is always nice to personalise a cake with a message and decorations of a particular interest or hobby etc.

What is the most unusual request you have had for a cake?

The most unusual request I had was an adult themed cake for a hen night. I decided not to display it on my website or portfolio as it would need to be censored! :-)

What is the most popular type of cake that you make?

The most popular type of cake is the Chocolate Mud Cake.

We met while working at a Hotel in Hampshire for a wedding fayre but which other areas do you cover?

I cover Hampshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Surrey and London.

You can see much more of Josie’s work at her website Bonita Cakes or contact her for some friendly advice.

Thanks again Josie and hopefully will see you again soon!
